Basic Application Software

Graphical User Interface
A graphical user interface (GUI) (sometimes pronounced gooey) is a type of user interface item that allows people to interact with programs in more ways than typing such as computers; hand-held devices such as MP3 Players, Portable Media Players or Gaming devices; household appliances and office

Word Processor
A word processor, or word processing program, does exactly what the name implies. It processes words. It also processes paragraphs, pages, and entire papers. Some examples of word processing programs include Microsoft Word, WordPerfect (Windows only), AppleWorks (Mac only), and OpenOffice.org.
Spreadsheet
A spreadsheet is a computer application that simulates a paper, accounting worksheet. It displays multiple cells that together make up a grid consisting of rows and columns, each cell containing either alphanumeric text or numeric values

Database Management System ( DBMS)
A database management system (DBMS) is the software that allows a computer to perform database functions of storing, retrieving, adding, deleting and modifying data. Relational database management systems (RDBMS) implement the relational model of tables and relationships.

Utility Suites
Suites combine multiple features into a single product. There are tradeoffs in using suites. It is convenient to have several features bundled together. Dealing with one vendor may be easier for upgrades and support.  If you have 3 home computers, a 3 license suite may save you money and reduce the work to install and maintain your security software.

System Unit

FLASH MEMORY
Flash memory is memory which retains its contents even after power is removed.Flash memory is a form of EAPROM (Electrically Alterable Programmable Read-Only Memory).

Graphic Cards

A graphics card (also video card) is a piece of hardware installed in a computer that is responsible for rendering the image on the computer’s monitor or display screen.

Sound Cards
A sound card is an internal computer component that processes audio files in order to provide high-quality playback through computer speakers. A sound card plays voice as well as music files, and can handle various audio file formats including .wav, .mp3 and .cda to name but a few. The typical sound card has an interface available at the back of the computer with various input and output ports. The quality of the sound card and speakers both affect the overall sound quality of the computer system. Speakers plug directly into the back of the sound card

Network Interface Card (NIC)
Provides communication capabilities; responsible for building, transmitting, receiving, and decoding frames in a LAN environment; serves as the interface between the networked devices and the connecting wires. Network devices that are installed in computers so that they can be connected to a network. Ethernet NICs come in different speeds as well as with connections to different media types.
Plug n Play
A term used to describe the characteristic of a computer bus, or device specification, which facilitates the discovery of a hardware component in a system, without the need for physical device configuration, or user intervention in resolving resource conflicts. Usually used in games like PSP or Xbox.
Bus Line
A subsystem that transfers data or power between computer components inside a computer or between computers. Modern computer buses can use both parallel and bit-serial connections, and can be wired in either a multidrop (electrical parallel) or daisy chain topology, or connected by switched hubs, as in the case of USB.

HDMI
HDMI (High-Definition Multimedia Interface) is the first and only industry-supported,
uncompressed, all-digital audio/video interface. By delivering crystal-clear,
all-digital audio and video via a single cable, HDMI dramatically simplifies
cabling and helps provide consumers with the highest-quality home theatre
experience. HDMI provides an interface between any audio/video source, such
as a set-top box, DVD player, or A/V receiver and an audio and/or video monitor,
such as a digital television (DTV), over a single cable.
Cache Memory
The cache is a small amount of high-speed memory, usually with a memory cycle time comparable to the time required by the CPU to fetch one instruction. The cache is usually filled from main memory when instructions or data are fetched into the CPU.

Specialized Application Software

Audio Editing Software
The Blaze Media Pro software includes a powerful audio editor feature to edit MP3, WMA, WAV, and OGG files with ease. To use the software's audio editor feature, click "Edit Audio" from the main interface.

Bitmap Image
A bitmap is one of many types of file formats for images stored in a computerized form. It carries the extension .BMP. Computers use bits of 1 and 0 to store data. A bitmap is literally a map of bits that form a particular picture when rendered to a display like a computer monitor.

HTML Editor
An HTML editor is a software application for creating web pages. Although the HTML markup of a web page can be written with any text editor, specialized HTML editors can offer convenience and added functionality.

Multimedia
Multimedia is media and content that uses a combination of different content forms. The term can be used as a noun or as an adjective describing a medium as having multiple content forms. The term is used in contrast to media which only use traditional forms of printed or hand-produced material. Multimedia includes a combination of text, audio, still images, animation, video, and interactivity content forms.

Vector Image
Vector images are a collection of individual objects rather than picture elements. A vector image can be composed of points connected by lines, or nodes (control points) connected by Bezier curves

Web Authoring
A category of software that enables the user to develop a Web site in a desktop publishing format. The software will generate the required HTML coding for the layout of the Web pages based on what the user designs.

SECONDARY STORAGE

FILE COMPRESSION
This is the file compression suite you were searching for: it is free and easy to use, plus it supports more than 20 formats of compressed archives, including RAR, CAB, SQX, ACE, ARJ, OpenOffice.org documents and the excellent 7-zip. The program also comes with a built in FTP client that allows to download and upload files from within the software. T
HEAD CRASH
A serious disk drive malfunction. A head crash usually means that the head has scratched or burned the disk. In a hard disk drive, the head normally hovers a few microinches from the disk. If the head becomes misaligned or if dust particles come between it and the disk, it can touch the disk.

INTERNET HARD DRIVE
Since the advent of digital media, there has been a need to store and retrieve media. Internet hard drives have served to meet this need, offering a creative new solution to the issue of data storage.

OPTICAL DISC DRIVE
Every modern PC contains an optical drive; the name refers to the general category of disk drives that read information optically, using a low-powered laser. CD-ROM drives were the first optical units commonly found on PCs; they began as novelties for high-end users and grew in popularity as they dropped in price and increased in performance, until the point arrived where they were mandatory equipment on any new PC system.

SOLID- STATE STORAGE

Solid state storage (SSS) is a method of data storage accomplished by using
integrated circuit devices to store data rather than moving magnetic or optical
media. SSS is typically non-volatile and may take various forms, such as a solid
state drive, solid state card or solid state module. In addition, SSS includes PATA
(legacy), SATA, SAS, Fibre Channel or PCIe interface options.

INPUT AND OUTPUT

designs also help to relieve sometimes painful conditions such as carpal tunnel syndrome and repetitive stress injury that results from extended keyboard usage. These specially designed, contoured keyboards are created with comfort in mind, and are often recommended by therapists and health care professionals.

Inkjet Printers

OPTICAL- CHARACTER RECOGNITION
Often abbreviated OCR, optical character recognition refers to the branch of computer science that involves reading text from paper and translating the images into a form that the computer can manipulate (for example, into ASCII codes). An OCR system enables you to take a book or a magazine article, feed it directly into an electronic computer file, and then edit the file using a word processor. All OCR systems include an optical scanner for reading text, and sophisticated software for analyzing images.

Optical Mark Recognition
Optical Mark Recognition (OMR) is the technology of electronically extracting intended data from marked fields, such as checkboxes and fill-in fields, on printed forms. It is generally distinguished from OCR by the fact that a recognition engine is not required. This requires the image to have high contrast and an easily-recognizable or irrelevant shape. OMR technology scans a printed form and reads predefined positions and records where marks are made on the form. This technology is useful for applications in which large numbers of hand-filled forms need to be processed quickly and with great accuracy, such as surveys, reply cards, questionnaires and ballots
