Graphic Cards

A graphics card (also video card) is a piece of hardware installed in a computer that is responsible for rendering the image on the computer’s monitor or display screen.

Sound Cards

A sound card is an internal computer component that processes audio files in order to provide high-quality playback through computer speakers. A sound card plays voice as well as music files, and can handle various audio file formats including .wav, .mp3 and .cda to name but a few. The typical sound card has an interface available at the back of the computer with various input and output ports. The quality of the sound card and speakers both affect the overall sound quality of the computer system. Speakers plug directly into the back of the sound card

Network Interface Card (NIC)

Provides communication capabilities; responsible for building, transmitting, receiving, and decoding frames in a LAN environment; serves as the interface between the networked devices and the connecting wires. Network devices that are installed in computers so that they can be connected to a network. Ethernet NICs come in different speeds as well as with connections to different media types.

Plug n Play

A term used to describe the characteristic of a computer bus, or device specification, which facilitates the discovery of a hardware component in a system, without the need for physical device configuration, or user intervention in resolving resource conflicts. Usually used in games like PSP or Xbox.

Bus Line

A subsystem that transfers data or power between computer components inside a computer or between computers. Modern computer buses can use both parallel and bit-serial connections, and can be wired in either a multidrop (electrical parallel) or daisy chain topology, or connected by switched hubs, as in the case of USB.

Cache Memory

The cache is a small amount of high-speed memory, usually with a memory cycle time comparable to the time required by the CPU to fetch one instruction. The cache is usually filled from main memory when instructions or data are fetched into the CPU.
